Bhigwan Diary

We decided to visit Bhigwan which is also known as Bird Paradise of Maharashtra. Bhigwan is situated on Pune – Solapur Highway and by road it is around 115 Kms away from pune. It’s very easy to reach this place. once you reach to the Bhigwan town, you have to ask for the Kranti Flamingo Point, Kumbhargaon which is situated on the banks of the backwater of Ujni Dam. Anyone will guide you to reach this place if you have your own vehicle and if you are coming by bus or train then you have to pay for auto rickshaw which will cost around Rs. 250 to Rs. 300, within 15 minutes you will reach to the destination, kranti flamingo point. Owner of the place Mr. Datta Nagare welcomes you, He is quite good and reliable person. Definitely he will help you in your birding interests. Once you reach to the place, if you have booked your room then you can go for birding immediately(If it’s a day!!!) and if room is not booked then contact Mr. Datta nagare before coming. On the weekends may be you cannot get the room then arrangements can be done in the tents by lake side.

Here, Cost for boating is Rs. 700 in which you can enjoy birding and the lake view for  3-4 hours. If you start boating early in the morning then you can watch birds till 11 A.M or till the afternoon, that depends on when you want to start boating in the morning. While boating you can see Flamingos, Gulls, Painted storks, Herons, various Ducks, kingfishers, Egrets, Raptors… specially i want to mention that we have been there in October 2016 and we have seen Western Reef Heron and Ruff.

Also you can click beautiful landscapes in the morning or in the evening. once you come back from watching birds in the you can enjoy the delicious homemade breakfast and again on minimum charges you can start exploring the grasslands near Kranti Flamingo Point for Chinkara, Indian Cursour, SandGrouse, Yellow Wattled Lapwings, Chameleon. you can be there for 1 to 2 hours. after coming back and having lunch you can go for the birding in the lake again that depends on you that how much you have tired. In the evening one can go back or stay there for night trails. In the night trails you can see nightjars, Owlets, even sometime Fox have been spotted there. Then you can leave early in the morning for your home.
